Check shelf depth, span and the weight of the contents
List what each shelf will hold, then compare usable dimensions and per-shelf load limits. Books and tools place different demands on shelving from light decorative objects. A whole-unit capacity does not tell you how much weight belongs on a single shelf.
Check whether shelves are fixed or adjustable and whether the unit needs anchoring. For ladder-style designs, confirm the intended support and installation method. Leave access to outlets and keep heavy items low according to the instructions.
